Our Culture
Our culture is based on two core principles that will drive our behaviors in everything we do, Hard Work and Mental Toughness.
These two principles are embodied in six specific beliefs: Sharpen the Blade, To the Line-Through the Line, Internal Standard, Do Your Job, 1-0 and Right is Never Wrong.
These Principle and Beliefs will be continually reinforced by our coaches both on the field and off it. Each day of the week will have a specific belief that will serve as the theme of the day. Each day we will spend 14 minutes (1% of 24 hours) developing this core value in a context that is bigger than football. This will help us refine our focus weekly to ensure that we talk about our Behaviors and Beliefs every day.
Hard Work
Sharpen the Blade
Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the ax.
-Abraham Lincoln
As a program we will put in the work to be prepared physically, mentally and emotionally before we start our task.
To the Line-Through the Line
A man’s accomplishments in life are the cumulative effect of his attention to detail.
-John Foster Dulles
Our attention to detail will carry over to every part of our lives. In everything we do we will start with a complete focus on the task we are going to accomplish and keep our focus until it is completed.
Internal Standard
Success comes from knowing that you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming.
-John Wooden
Our focus will not be on the external perceptions of what success is. Instead we will measure success by living up to and improving the Internal Standard of knowing we achieved at our highest level.
Mental Toughness
Do Your Job
Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean.
-Ryunosuke Satoro
Everyone, players and coaches, will have a specific role in the success of our team on and off the field. It is my job as a Head Coach to coordinate and hold them accountable for doing their job.
1-0
Only through focus can you do world-class things.
-Bill Gates
We will treat each rep, each drill, each play, and each game as an individual competition against ourselves. Our goal for every competition will be to compete at the internal standard we hold ourselves to.
Right is Never Wrong
The time is always right to do what is right.
-Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
In everything we do we will strive to do the right thing. This will require us to have the Mental Toughness to do the right thing even when it is difficult.
